Club Rush 2024 a success as Neuwirth scholars explore their extracurricular options
Students wandering and viewing booths during Club Rush
If you noticed more activity on the patio before school and at lunch on the 28th of August, you were witnessing Neuwirth’s annual Club Rush, an event that kicks off the year where clubs set up booths and present what they offer to encourage students to join their clubs. A multitude of students showed curiosity toward numerous diverse groups. The event was a success, with an average of 10 people signing up for each club.
Neuwirth offers a variety of clubs that may interest you, such as the Environmental Action Club, SRLA, ASB, Boxers Bounce Back, Boxers Give Back, NHS, Step Up, Robotics, Ballet, BSU, Girls Rock, Worlds Language Club, Volleyball, Cheer, Basketball, Soccer, Track, and Cross Country. Club Rush aimed to allow students to experience what signing up for clubs is like in college, discover more about what they are passionate about, and give them a chance to learn what clubs are offered at Neuwirth.
We interviewed Ms.Mumar, who coordinated Club Rush. She is responsible for managing finances for the event such as buying freebies for the clubs to hand out, buying snacks, providing materials, setting up for the event, and ensuring all clubs are prepared. Changes she hopes to make later on are to offer additional clubs, hire a band or DJ, possibly have a mascot for the event, make Club Rush a whole school experience similar to a career fair and Boxer Bodega, and have it last an entire day rather than just an hour. Furthermore, some possible adjustments for advertisements are a variety of flyers, advisory slides, school announcements, and a spokesperson who notifies advisories of the event.
Although there are plenty of clubs to choose from, having more clubs available would benefit students by allowing them to have more options, which could increase the chances of students developing helpful life skills that will be useful to them in the future. Joining clubs is a great way to get involved in school activities and can help people gain more recognition from colleges. Some clubs, such as Boxers Give Back, allow people to assist the community.
By participating in group activities provided in clubs, personal growth can ensue which will help students gain self-esteem and knowledge. Additionally, as mentioned by The Princeton Review, “...participation in clubs can hone your communication skills, foster creative thinking, and teach you how to work effectively with other people”. Clubs, like Robotics, can help students build the courage to interact with others who are in the same club and are worthwhile. Therefore scholars should take advantage of joining clubs and take the next step in their journey towards success.
If you missed out on participating in Club Rush, don’t worry, you can still join one of the many exciting clubs offered here at Neuwirth. Students can contact a club advisor or anyone from ARC with any questions or concerns regarding joining their club.
