You may have probably heard about the new Marvel Studios movie, Captain America: Brave New World, which came out last month. You either haven’t seen it, or you have,  but you probably have seen the negative reviews it’s been getting on the Internet.

But on February 26 at 8:00 pm, a movie theater in Washington that was showing a screening of the Captain America movie collapsed. The reason why I want to talk about this is because it’s a story about a disaster happening in a place where you don’t think it can happen, it can make you feel afraid that a disaster like that can happen to you anywhere you go.

In the moments before the movie started, the TWO people in attendance noticed that the ceiling was starting to shift, and that’s likely when the theater began to collapse. Most of the destruction fell on the first 3 rows.

The good news is that the two people weren’t close to the first 3 rows; they didn’t suffer any injuries. The moviegoers were very lucky to be sitting farther from the first 3 rows. The story has gained attention because of the number of people who DIDN’T go to the screening. If anyone was in the first three rows, they likely would have been killed by the collapse.

Some people jokingly said online that “Captain America: Brave New World” was so bad that it saved lives. There is no exact explanation for why the theater collapsed, but since the theater was built in 1919, we can assume that the fact that the theater is over 100 years old is the likely reason.

When “Captain America: Brave New World” was released in theaters, critics were the ones to show a lot of hate whereas audiences were mixed, some said the movie was good but others said that it wasn’t worth watching. Because of those reviews, people started to say that the movie was a flop, it received a 5.9 on IMDb, 48% from critics, and 79% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

The reviews may have made people not want to watch it on the big screen, thus resulting in an empty theater on the day of the incident. If the movie was a success - like Marvel movies of the past, the theater would have been packed, and many people would’ve been injured or killed.

But since the movie flopped and only two people came to the theater that would eventually collapse, it’s safe to conclude that Marvel saved lives by releasing such a bad movie.
