“He looks scary and mean,” “He looks like a rude person” “Is he dumb or does he just make himself look that way” He this, he that, this and that but have you ever met someone who at first glance looks scary, and mean and you think the person is rude? Well, not in this case. You see, Julio Silva is a gummy bear. He’s sweet and kind, and when you get to know him you’ll understand who he really is.
Julio is not your ordinary person. A lot of people think they know who he is or what he is like, but what most people don’t understand is that Julio is one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Whenever you are down and sad and not in the best mood, Julio is a person you can rely on. He has given many of us advice on life and he feels like a brother to us. Sebastian Jimenez (12), Julio’s closest friend, had this to say: “Julio is a good person, his personality and way of life overthrow his perception of a mean scary person, because when you get to know Julio you have fun.”
Not only is Julio a kind-hearted person, but he also has a cool life outside of high school. Julio likes to party, play soccer, work out, box, and do many other cool things. “I believe the mind is the most important part of the body. I wake up and go for a run to get my day started,” Julio said when describing what a productive day looks like for him at lunch on the patio one day. “I go home, eat something, shower, and get ready for school.”
Julio believes that a key to living a long, healthy life is to make sure you're on it, you are working out, eating healthy, and focusing on good mental health. Julio has had an amazing run here at Neuwirth ever since he was a freshman. He started as a member of the school soccer team before becoming a manager. Julio likes to make friends, he is known in school by everyone. You can ask teachers, former staff, and students, and they will be certain to tell you a story about Julio and how funny he was.
“My grandma is my biggest inspiration and motivation to keep going,” Julio shared with a heartfelt tone. “At a young age, I saw her work, and I asked her, ‘Why do you work if you're grown?’ She told me that you got to be someone when you grow up. She also cared for me most of my life since my mom worked 2 jobs.”
Julio is a family man. He goes to church with his family, and he is a peaceful person. His grandma lifts him up every day to continue to grow and succeed so that in the future, he can give his kids a life that he never had.
Julio has this to say to Neuwirth students: “Enjoy high school, but don’t mess around too much and actually get your work done. Build relationships with your peers and teachers, as you may never know when they will come in handy. Keep thriving even though life at times is unfair.”
